International Ministries

We are grateful for the opportunity to serve with other Moravians in the world-wide Moravian Unity. Since education and building relationships are important to us, it is no surprise that friendships formed years ago with students from Tanzania and Nepal studying at Moravian Theological Seminary in Bethlehem have led to on-going partnerships with fellow Moravians in those countries and efforts to bring international students to study at Moravian College.

Tanzania

Since 1991, Central Moravian Church has been involved in mission with our sister congregation, Sikonge Moravian Church, in Tanzania. What began early on as an effort to provide AIDS education and prevention has evolved into our current effort to assist in the construction of church buildings, the digging of wells, and most importantly, support for orphans. Support for orphans in the larger Sikonge district and in Tabora includes providing assistance for their clothing, food, and educational needs. These efforts have been largely overseen through the years by Drs. Peg and Bill Hoffman. We receive a special offering for this work each year. For more information, contact the Chairperson of our Mission Committee, Mary Catherine Tachovsky through the church office.

Nepal

From 2009 to 2018, Central members participated in the Nepali Moravian Outreach Committee which supported the growth of educational ministries in Nepal. Although this committee officially concluded its work in October 2018, we continue to encourage and support our brothers and sisters in Nepal. For more information, contact the Chairperson of our Mission Committee, Mary Catherine Tachovsky.

International Students

We collaborate with Moravian College to bring and host international students to study at the college. With involvement from members of Central, College Hill, and Edgeboro Moravian Churches, we provide local support, including dormitory room set up, books, school supplies, personal items, clothing, health insurance, and transportation. Moravian College provides tuition and room and board for two qualified students every other year. Our first two students joined us in 2016 and a third joined us in 2018. To learn more about this collaborative effort, contact International Student Care Committee Chairperson, Alice Mosebach.
