Discover Faith and Community

Perhaps our motto at Central is best expressed through our call to worship each Sunday: “Wherever you are in your journey of faith and whatever your identity may be, you are welcome at Central Moravian Church.”

We come from a variety of backgrounds and seek to be a caring, respectful, and inclusive community. We grow as individuals and as a fellowship through meaningful worship, warm friendships, inquisitive learning, and faithful service to others. We know that each person who enters our doors is unique. We respect where you have come from and welcome you to experience our community in the way that best helps you grow in faith. Each fall and spring, our senior pastor, the Rev. Janel Rice, holds a series of inquirers’ classes. These can lead to church membership or simply serve as a starting point to learn more about the Moravian Church, our particular ministries here at Central, and a place to get to know others exploring their faith.

We generally hold three or four of these classes, which include lunch, following the 11 a.m. worship service

Mission and Vision Statements

Central Moravian Church is an inclusive community of God’s people that assembles for worship, education, and fellowship as members of the worldwide Moravian Church. Our members are committed to meeting the needs of society and nurturing individuals on their spiritual journeys as we honor our Moravian heritage. We live our lives serving and fulfilling the mission of Christ in the world.

To honor God in all that we do through:

  • Meaningful opportunities for worship
  • A dynamic music ministry
  • Active Christian education and spiritual development programs
  • Awareness of and response to the social, spiritual, and physical needs of our community and world
  • The practice of good financial stewardship
  • The affirmation and development of our community and worldwide partners
  • The practice of our Moravian motto: In essentials unity, in nonessentials liberty, in all things love.

Our Boards and Committees

Our church is governed by two boards — the Board of Elders and the Board of Trustees — which together are known as the Joint Board. Members are elected at our Church Council annual meeting on the last Sunday in January.

Our Board of Elders oversees worship, pastoral care, programming, and building use requests.

Our Board of Trustees oversees buildings and grounds, budget and finance, and personnel matters. Members of these boards also serve as representatives on our numerous committees.

Our committees range from those dedicated to preserving our history and planning faith formation to groups engaging in social justice work.
