Mid-Week Lenten Dinners and Programs
We are excited to share our Mid-Week Lenten Program as we look forward to celebrating the Old Chapel’s 275th anniversary this spring and summer (save the date for a special worship service on July 12 at 10 a.m!) Here’s the line-up, with thanks to the planning team of Richard Miller, Chair; Diane Shaw, Mary Brown, Charlene Donchez Mowers, Janel Rice, and Tom Tenges. All dates include dinners in the Christian Education building at 6 p.m., followed by a brief worship and program in the Old Chapel.
Wednesday, February 18, Ash Wednesday Worship in the Old Chapel.
Wednesday, February 25, “Construction and Evolution of the Old Chapel” touching on the construction, original layout and decor, and usage of space throughout the years.
Wednesday, March 4, “Famous Visitors in the Old Chapel”. Central’s young people will share anecdotes and comments to be selected from the following list: George Washington, Martha Washington, John Adams, Count Pulaski, Marquis deLafayette, Benjamin Franklin, and more!
Wednesday, March 11, “Indigenous Peoples in the Old Chapel”. This program will explore the 1792 visit by Chiefs and Warriors of the Iroquois Nation; their encounter with the young women of the Seminary and what Central Moravian Church is doing in the present day to commemorate our involvement with indigenous people.
Wednesday, March 18, “Moravian Academy–Then and Now” Adrianne Finley Odell will talk about the present-day Academy and how the Moravian’s history and theology inform the present-day Academy. Charlene Donchez Mowers will present the history of the Academy.
Wednesday, March 25, “Music in the Chapel and a Singstunde”. Music through the years in the Old Chapel, the organs and organists, what hymns were sung during Lent, musical landmarks that occurred in the Old Chapel, how it was used, musically, though the years, i.e. concert hall for the Philharmonic Society. The evening will conclude with a Singstunde led by Becky Lepore.
