The Second Annual Donald Spieth Memorial Concert featuring the Meridian Quintet will be held on Saturday, October 4 at 2 p.m. in the Old Chapel. Recent winners of the Techne Music Festival, violinist Miriam Smith, violinist and violist Juan Felipe Villanueva Contreras, violinist and violist Julia Kuzmina, cellist Julian Shively, and pianist Yanzhima Tsybikova will play works by Piazzolla, Rimsky Korsakov, and Antonín Dvořák’s Piano Quintet No. 2 in A major, Op. 81. Individually, these quintet members have had international recognition, garnering prestigious awards, soloist appearances and principal positions in respected orchestras, and performing on major stages across the globe. Collectively, they combine their rich musical knowledge and shared passion
into a cohesive and complex artistic voice, one that strives for dynamic collaboration, emotional depth and musical excellence.
Techne Music is a five-day chamber music festival for highly advanced musicians. Formed in 2013 by violinist Timothy Schwarz, Techne Music has faculty and guest artists from the Juilliard, Orion, American, and Attacca Quartets, as well as faculty members from the Juilliard School of Music, the Curtis Institute of Music, Peabody Conservatory, and the Manhattan School of Music.
The Donald Spieth Memorial Award is given to one ensemble attending the Techne Music Festival. Named after the beloved conductor and music educator Donald Spieth, the award includes two paid concerts in early October. Techne Music is grateful to Central Moravian Church and the MacDowell Series for sponsoring these concerts.
