DESCRIPTION:Since 1937\, Central Moravian has been offering a Community Putz for the City of Bethlehem. Like a crèche\, a putz tells the story of Jesus’ birth with carved figures.  A cherished tradition\, the Putz (from the German word putzen\, meaning “to decorate”) retells the wonderful story of Christ’s birth through narration and music\, while tiny lights illuminate each miniature scene. The figures\, many of them antiques of German origin\, are nestled amidst live moss\, driftwood and rocks. The practice of putz building is uniquely Moravian. Bethlehem’s first settlers brought their putz figures with them in the 18th century. In Victorian days\, it was the custom in Bethlehem for Moravians to “go putzing” during the week between Christmas Eve and New Year’s\, enjoying others’ putzes. \nThe Putz opens to the public Thanksgiving Friday\, November 25 and will be open Thursday – Sunday\, Nov. 25 – Dec. 23.  Hours are Thursday & Fridays 1-7 pm\, Saturdays 10 am – 8 pm\, and Sundays 1 – 5 pm. Closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. DESCRIPTION:Central’s traditional Star and Candle Shoppe\, open in the C. E. Building each year during the hours of the Christmas Putz\, will operate as “Pop-up” shops this season. That means that each of the four weekends of the shop will be coordinated by a different individual or group.\nThe first weekend\, Nov. 26 – 27\, will be coordinated by Carol Reifinger; the second weekend\, Dec. 3 – 4\, by the Fundraising Committee; Linda Wickmann will lead the third weekend\, Dec. 10 – 11\, and for the final weekend\, Dec. 17 – 18\, the History Committee will be in charge.\nAlthough each Pop-up shop can stand on its own\, you can count on the return of many of your favorite crafters\, including stained glass artisans and unique jewelry designers\, plus some surprise crafters and items each weekend.

DESCRIPTION:Help Build & Share the Putz\nWe are grateful for our faithful Putz volunteers who make it possible for us to tell the story of Jesus’ birth to our own members and to many visitors from the larger community. This year\, the Virtual Putz from 2020 will still be available on Central’s website and we are excited to offer an in-person Putz once again. Putz Construction begins on Sunday\, November 13th with the construction of the stage in the lower level of Christian Education building\, immediately following the 11 a.m. service. It will continue the evening of Friday\, November 18th and all day on Saturday\, November 19th with the construction of the various scenes. \nThe Putz officially opens on November 25th\, the Friday after Thanksgiving\, and will be open Thursday and Fridays\, 1-7 p.m.\, Saturdays\, 10 a.m.-8 p.m. and Sundays\, 1-5 p.m. until December 23rd. After Christmas\, the Putz will be open daily from 1-5 p.m.\nWe will need volunteers to help construct and staff the Putz. DESCRIPTION:Help Build & Share the Putz\nWe are grateful for our faithful Putz volunteers who make it possible for us to tell the story of Jesus’ birth to our own members and to many visitors from the larger community. This year\, the Virtual Putz from 2020 will still be available on Central’s website and we are excited to offer an in-person Putz once again. Putz Construction begins on Sunday\, November 13th with the construction of the stage in the lower level of Christian Education building\, immediately following the 11 a.m. service. It will continue the evening of Friday\, November 18th and all day on Saturday\, November 19th with the construction of the various scenes. \nThe Putz officially opens on November 25th\, the Friday after Thanksgiving\, and will be open Thursday and Fridays\, 1-7 p.m.\, Saturdays\, 10 a.m.-8 p.m. and Sundays\, 1-5 p.m. until December 23rd. After Christmas\, the Putz will be open daily from 1-5 p.m.\nWe will need volunteers to help construct and staff the Putz.
