MEWO is a not-for-profit organization that aims to help vulnerable children with education\, health\, food\, and counseling. Most of these children are orphaned by HIV and AIDS\, and some are infected with the virus. We will gather for lunch in Nitschmann Hall following the 10 a.m. service. DESCRIPTION:Lunch & Learn about Jamaican Trip: In February the History Committee sponsored a trip to Jamaica for the purpose of learning about the involvement of the Moravian Church with the enslaved peoples on the Island. Despite the unspeakable tragedy we all experienced upon the death of Pastor Hopeton\, going ahead with the trip was seen as a tribute to his memory. Twenty-three travelers from different Moravian congregations\, as well as friends of the church\, participated. The experience was amazing and humbling. We would like to share our memories with you. \nOn Sunday\, May 19th there will be a forum to report on the trip and share what we learned\, particularly examining the response of the church to slavery and to the education of enslaved people. The program will be held in Nitschmann Hall following the 11 a.m. service. There will be a narrative accompanied by many photos. The History Committee will provide lunch for those in attendance. \n

DESCRIPTION:Visit from Nepal \nJai Mashi\, Vani and Shanti! Jai Mashi means ‘Praise to the Messiah’ and is used by the Nepali Moravians as a welcome greeting to show respect and honor. We hope you will join us to welcome\, with respect and honor\, The Reverends Shanti and Vani Pradhan while they visit Bethlehem during the month of May. \nIn 2009\, Vani and Shanti graduated from Moravian Theological Seminary and were ordained just before returning to their home in Kathmandu\, Nepal. They joined in ministry there with Shanti’s brother Nagendra Pradhan serving two congregations which he had started\, and since then\, they have formed a third. Vani and Shanti had served at Central\, College Hill\, and Edgeboro Moravian churches as pastoral interns while at the Seminary. These three churches\, as well as others in the US\, have supported them spiritually and financially in their mission work over the years. \nVani and Shanti will celebrate their son Nahum’s graduation from Moravian University Graduate School on May 4. On Wednesday\, May 15 our Mission Committee will host a Mission Supper in the Christian Education building at 6 p.m. All are welcome! Vani and Shanti will present a program outlining their mission work in Kathmandu as well as their operation of the International Kindergarten and Shristi Academy. They started Shristi Academy as a grade school with first grade and have grown it a year at a time until now they have opened the high school with ninth grade. These are private\, English speaking schools. They are not Christian schools\, but through Vani’s and Shanti’s leadership\, the children experience Christian values and ethics. We hope you will also hear about their recent participation in the formation of the Southeast Asian Province of the worldwide Moravian Church. \nVani and Shanti will be Central’s guest speakers at the Sunday morning Lovefeast services on May 12. They will also visit their friends at College Hill and Edgeboro churches for Sunday services and a Moravian Village Sunday service. Included in the schedule is a reception with those individuals who have been with them in Nepal as visiting teachers under the Antioch program and those who might be interested in a Mission experience as an Antioch teacher in the future. \nIn the words of Paul to the Philippians (1:6)\, “I am sure of this much: that he who has begun the good work in you will carry through to completion\, right up to the day of Jesus Christ. – Craig Mosebach

For each step along the path\, we follow the lyrics of the hymn “Come Thou Fount” as we hear from speakers\, experience art\, music and journaling and most importantly join together as a community of faith. Please share widely – all are welcome! \nFeb. 14 Ash Wednesday / Dinner: Sacristans ’Corp \nAsh Wednesday: 7 p.m. worship service in the Old Chapel\, with the option of ashes at the end. \nFeb. 21 “Jesus Sought Me” Luke 5:1-10 / Dinner: Men’s Bible Study and Moravian Women \nWho is the disciple Peter? Our student pastor Josh Follweiler will lead us through the Peter stories of this complicated disciple whose humanity often mirrors our struggles in faith. \nFeb. 28 “Praise the Mount” Matthew 16:13-20\, Psalm 19 / Dinner: Music Ministry Program \nIt’s easy to praise God when we’re in the midst of a Mountaintop experience! It’s easy to declare with every breath in our body\, “YES\, Lord! You are the Messiah\, the Son of God.” But what happens when that Mountaintop feeling leaves us\, and we find our souls journeying in the wilderness? Our Minister of Music\, Becky Lepore\, will lead us in a time of reflection as we explore hymns that can serve as a musical compass in reviving our soul and restoring us to a place of praise and thanksgiving. \nMarch 6 “Rescue me from danger” Matthew 14:22-33 / Dinner: Youth Group/CE Committee \nDr. Micah Sadigh will lead a discussion about how we are built for community (Genesis 2)\, as we see Peter leaving his own community of disciples. Where are we in the world of loneliness\, social media expectations\, etc. and how to they affect our mental health? \nMarch 13 “I’m fixed upon it” Matthew 16:21-23 / Dinner: Joint Board \nUsing the spiritual practice of Visio Divina\, we’ll examine different pieces of art relating to Peter’s stories and ask how art can enlarge our perceptive\, and give us grace to listen to another’s point of view? \nMarch 20 “Teach Me”. Matthew 18:15-22 / Dinner: Busy Workers \nWe journey through a traditional Holy Week practice of “Stations of the Cross” but this time with the stories and lessons from Peter; Art\, Music and Journaling practices.
