SUMMARY:Christmas Putz
DESCRIPTION:Since 1937\, Central Moravian has been offering a Community Putz for the City of Bethlehem. Like a crèche\, a putz tells the story of Jesus’ birth with carved figures.  A cherished tradition\, the Putz (from the German word putzen\, meaning “to decorate”) retells the wonderful story of Christ’s birth through narration and music\, while tiny lights illuminate each miniature scene. The figures\, many of them antiques of German origin\, are nestled amidst live moss\, driftwood and rocks. The practice of putz building is uniquely Moravian. Bethlehem’s first settlers brought their putz figures with them in the 18th century. In Victorian days\, it was the custom in Bethlehem for Moravians to “go putzing” during the week between Christmas Eve and New Year’s\, enjoying others’ putzes. \nThe Putz opens to the public Thanksgiving Friday\, November 29.  Hours are Thursdays & Fridays from 1 – 7 pm\, Saturdays from 10 am – 8 pm\, and Sundays from 1 – 5 pm. Closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. After Christmas\, the Putz is open daily from 1 – 5 pm through Dec 31st.

SUMMARY:Sanctuary & Chapel Tours
DESCRIPTION:Guests will be welcomed to visit and learn more about the 1751 Old Chapel\, where George Washington and Benjamin Franklin worshipped and which welcomed local Native Americans as well as German settlers in its early history.   The Chapel is still used for Sunday worship\, memorial services\, weddings and other church events.\n\nThe Church Sanctuary was built from 1803-1806.  Guests will learn more not only about its architectural design\, history of music and worship\, but also the living ministries of Central Moravian Church today.  Unique places like the 2nd floor Kleiner Saal will be included on this tour.   A suggested donation of $5/person.   A gift shop with many unique Moravian items\, as well as books and other gifts will be open.\n\nOutside of our regular hours\, guided tours of the Sanctuary and Old Chapel can also be arranged by contacting the Rev. Josh Follweiler\,  Associate Pastor at 610-866-5661 (x.201)  A suggested donation of $5/person is requested for these tours.   They can be arranged subject to a tour guide and the church’s availability.

SUMMARY:Sanctuary & Chapel Tours
DESCRIPTION:Guests will be welcomed to visit and learn more about the 1751 Old Chapel\, where George Washington and Benjamin Franklin worshipped and which welcomed local Native Americans as well as German settlers in its early history.   The Chapel is still used for Sunday worship\, memorial services\, weddings and other church events.\n\nThe Church Sanctuary was built from 1803-1806.  Guests will learn more not only about its architectural design\, history of music and worship\, but also the living ministries of Central Moravian Church today.  Unique places like the 2nd floor Kleiner Saal will be included on this tour.   A suggested donation of $5/person.   A gift shop with many unique Moravian items\, as well as books and other gifts will be open.\n\nOutside of our regular hours\, guided tours of the Sanctuary and Old Chapel can also be arranged by contacting the Rev. Josh Follweiler\,  Associate Pastor at 610-866-5661 (x.201)  A suggested donation of $5/person is requested for these tours.   They can be arranged subject to a tour guide and the church’s availability.

DESCRIPTION:Central’s Christian Education Programs\nWhether you are a kid\, teen\, or adult\, there are offerings to meet your needs. After being dismissed from the 9 a.m. service\, we will have a weekly children’s choir from 9:30 until 10 in the Christian Education building. Kids between the ages of 6-12 are invited to stay for Sunday School from 10-10:50. Kids between 2-5 will have their Sunday School time from 9:30-10 a.m.\, followed by free play from 10 -10:50 in the C. E. building. Middle school students are welcome to sing and help the Children’s Choir\, after which they will have their own Sunday School. Adult Sunday School\, led by professor of New Testament Dr. Brigidda Bell\, will also return.\nOne of Central’s most popular programs\, Friday Fun Night (FFN)\, will return this year. From 6-8 p.m. on the third Friday of the month\, parents are invited to drop their kids off at the Christian Education building for a night of games\, food\, music\, and storytime. This year\, FFN will be open to 2 – 5-year-olds. We are excited about the growth and vitality of our Christian Education opportunities and sincerely hope you will join us.

DESCRIPTION:Moravian Women Groups\nThe Moravian Women is an excellent way of finding fellowship monthly with a short Bible study and reflection time. If you feel like you would like to meet other women in the church or that perhaps a weekly commitment isn’t for you\, join the Moravian Women. One option is on the 2nd Sunday at 10 a.m. (in person)\, the other option is the 3rd Monday at 7 p.m. on Zoom. Pastor Janel is leading this new group on Monday nights on Zoom as a way to reach out to women who might be working during the day or needing an online option. Look for\nthe Zoom link in Constant Contact or reach out to Pastor Janel at janel@centralmoravianchurch.org. A short study guide will be shared with no more than 1-2 pages of reading each month.

SUMMARY:Christmas Putz
DESCRIPTION:Since 1937\, Central Moravian has been offering a Community Putz for the City of Bethlehem. Like a crèche\, a putz tells the story of Jesus’ birth with carved figures.  A cherished tradition\, the Putz (from the German word putzen\, meaning “to decorate”) retells the wonderful story of Christ’s birth through narration and music\, while tiny lights illuminate each miniature scene. The figures\, many of them antiques of German origin\, are nestled amidst live moss\, driftwood and rocks. The practice of putz building is uniquely Moravian. Bethlehem’s first settlers brought their putz figures with them in the 18th century. In Victorian days\, it was the custom in Bethlehem for Moravians to “go putzing” during the week between Christmas Eve and New Year’s\, enjoying others’ putzes. \nThe Putz opens to the public Thanksgiving Friday\, November 29.  Hours are Thursdays & Fridays from 1 – 7 pm\, Saturdays from 10 am – 8 pm\, and Sundays from 1 – 5 pm. Closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. After Christmas\, the Putz is open daily from 1 – 5 pm through Dec 31st.

SUMMARY:Star & Candle Shoppe
DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to announce that the Moravian History Store of the Moravian Archives will partner with Central Moravian Church’s Star and Candle Shoppe for the 2024 Advent and Christmas season. Archives staff members\, Kelly Givens and Emma Horning will provide History Store items for sale and manage the shop for four weekends\, beginning on the day after Thanksgiving\, November 29\, and continuing each weekend through the week after Christmas. In addition\, Central Church will be offering its own traditional gifts such as paper stars and beeswax candles. Both the Fundraising and the History Committees of the church will have items for sale\, as well. The Moravian Archives was a popular vendor at the Star and Candle Shoppe in the 2019 season. We look forward to having the Archives return in this new\,\nexpanded role. Central Church volunteers will be needed to join the Archives volunteers to staff the shop\, which will be open during Putz hours. More information about sign-ups will be available in October.
