275th Anniversary Lovefeast
Save-the-Dates: June 17 and June 25
Next month we celebrate a culmination of 275 years of mission and service by the Moravians in Bethlehem. There will be a Moravian Day Festival on a Saturday in mid-June and Sunday afternoon lovefeast a week later. The location on the 17th is the church green at Central Moravian Church from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. While on the 25th, we gather in Johnston Hall at Moravian College at 3 p.m..
These events are part of a year-long series sponsored by the Bethlehem Area Moravian Churches, Moravian Academy, Moravian Archives, Moravian College, Moravian Museum, and Moravian Theological Seminary. We deeply appreciate the support of several music groups including the Moravian Trombone Choir and the Bethlehem Municipal Band.
The theme for the Moravian Day Festival is “Get On the Moravian Trail.” There will be different kinds of trails for attendees to follow—to meet Moravians from history, to tour some of the nearby venues, to listen to musical performances, and for children participate in various activities.
A highlight of the special lovefeast will be greetings from the ecumenical community, a descendant of Count Nicholas Ludwig von Zinzendorf, “A Voice from the Bethlehem Diaries”, and the chairman of the worldwide Unity Board. Moravian sugar cake and coffee will be provided by Moravian College. The various Moravian congregations are providing sacristans and ushers for the afternoon. An offering will be received in support of the Bethlehem Emergency Sheltering.
Vacation Bible School
Once again, we will be partnering with East Hills and Advent Moravian Churches to offer VBS to our children who have completed 4 year old Pre-K - 6th grade. Middle and High School students are encouraged to volunteer. Adult site leaders and class guides are always needed. The theme this year is Hero Central and will explore stories about David, Abigail, Jesus as a boy, the Beatitudes, and Pentecost. VBS will be held at Advent Moravian Church, June 12-16 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Contact the church office for Registration forms.
Summer will be here before we know it – and the camping season at Camp Hope in Hope, NJ. Last year, 14 of our children and youth attended – some of them going to more than one camp. Attending camp is a great way to make friends, grow in your faith, and live into our identity as Moravians. Camp Hope offers conferences for children who have completed first grade all the way through high school as well as several specialty camps.
Camp Hope is very affordable. The Bethlehem Area Moravian Ministries Committee offers $100 scholarship for children and youth from BAM churches. Central Moravian offers a scholarship for $100 per child per camp. With the discounts and depending on which camp you choose, the cost for sleep-away camp will range from $25 for pre-primary camp to $175 for specialty camps. Contact Pastor Lynnette if you need more financial assistance. For more details, visit www.camphope.org. Please don’t forget to indicate under “Other Discounts” that you are a member of a BAM congregation as well as a Central member. Discounts apply for non-members who are friends and/or take part in our Central activities for children and youth.
