Action & Advocacy
We believe an engaged faith is an important piece of spiritual development. The Social Action Commitee and other members of Central work hard to find a multitude of ways of action and advocacy.
The Social Action Committee is committed to:
- the annual October Crop Walk for Church World Service hunger relief (Oct. 11th, 1:30 p.m. Contact Helen Foraste)
- the November drive for Christmas gifts/clothes for children of Head Start
- occasional presentations, films, or discussion groups on different religious faiths and issues of social concern
- Environmental Awareness and Peace and Justice Awareness
- Bread for the World Offering of Letter for Hunger Relief (in Spring)
- Yearly Study Group looking at Social Justice issues called Traveler's Together
Mission Efforts of Central Moravian Church
Central Food Bank - Open for emergency aid and every third Thursday 10 - 12 p.m. Food collection every first Sunday in church. |
World Import Shop - Open every Saturday, 10:30 - 4 p.m. Benefits world mission/Tanzania partnership. |
Cynthia’s Boutique - collects clothes for distribution, call office for info and drop-off |
Victory House - Elke Rockwell and Terry Delph coordinate meals |
New Bethany Ministries - Many members serve lunch meals, other volunteering |
Emergency Shelter Bethlehem - Stay tuned for more info, Barry and Dawn Dubbs coordinating. |
Community Services for Children - Collect Gifts for Christmas for children of Head Start programs. |
Habitat for Humanity (Local – BAM) and Gulf Coast (’08, ’07 trips) Join local efforts on the southside of Bethlehem with the Bethlehem Area Moravians. Contact Harry Tachovsky for more info. |

Buying local also tastes better - often produce is sold ithin 24 hours of being picked and you get a better seasonal variety.
