Confirmation INSTRUCTION
Young people in grade eight are invited to take part in instruction leading to the Rite of Confirmation. Confirmation is the time for our young people to prepare to affirm their faith and the promises made for them at baptism, and to begin to accept the responsibilities of adult membership.
Basic Bible study, a review of the seasons of the Church Year, Moravian history and polity, as well as an understanding of the sacraments and rites of the Moravian Church, are topics for a series of Confirmation Retreats, held from October through the week before Palm Sunday.
On designated Sundays, usually once a month, in the Christian Education Building, we begin with lunch provided by the parents of our young people and then meet together until about 4:30 p.m. There are very few "lectures," only spirited conversations and creative hands on projects, debates and games.
A highlight of the year is an extensive campus tour with Senior Pastor Doug Caldwell. Confirmands are asked to write essays describing why they want to confirm their faith at Central Moravian Church. On Palm Sunday, the essays are read to the congregation. The young people then confirm their faith and are each given a special biblical text and receive the laying on of hands in blessing.
